Summary:

The principal objective of this study was to carry out simulations of the water environment of Goose Bay estuary and Lac Melville. This study was to allow for the evaluation of the potential impacts of Low Churchill's hydroelectric project.

Principal activities carried out:

• Adaptation and validation of a 3D hydrodynamic model with the finite elements method to simulate the coastal processes of Goose Bay estuary and Lac Melville;
• Construction and validation of a meshing with finite elements technology for Goose Bay estuary and Lac Melville;
• Mission's data analysis to fix the hydrodynamic model's open boundary conditions. These data were also used to determine the initial conditions and to calibrate and validate the hydrodynamic model;
• Scenario selection and realization in order to analyze the environmental impact of the regularization of Hamilton river's flow on the Goose Bay estuary's and Lac Melville's circulation and mixture;
• Hydrodynamic model's results analysis.
